I just built my pc and am having problems installing programs. During installation I get an error message that says something like "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Archives\bf1942\levels\Battlaxe.rfa doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted." There isn't anything wrong with the software because it installs just fine on my cousin's computer. Its really frustrating because I just got several new games and I can't play any of them. I've tried everything I know including turning down my FSB and rewiring everything. My comp specs are:
Soyo Dragon Ultra Black Edition Motherboard 1.5GHz AMD 1800+ XP Processor Leadtek A280 128MB GeForce4 Graphics Card Western Digital 80GB Hard Drive 512 DDR Ram Compaq DVD-Rom Lite On 52x 24x 52x CD-RW Windows XP Home Any help would be greatly appreciated. CrazyTaco |

Could be a dirty/bad CD drive.
Is there a chance that you could switch drives and check? You have two drives on your system. Does this happen when you try installing from both? |

It gives me the same error on both drives. I've tried slaving one from the other and installing each one seperately.

It could be substandard or mistimed ram. Is DMA enabled on all your IDE controllers?

I don't think its the ram. I've got a brand new stick of crucial 512. Not sure about the DMA. I'll go check now.

Oh and before I forget, I just realized that it only happens when I'm trying to install games. If I'm just installing a program like Nero Burning Rom I have no trouble at all. I don't know if that has anything to do with but it couldn't hurt to mention it.

I got a similar CRC error message trying to install GTA III; much to my surprise, however, the game plays ok (after I clicked the ignore button). Have you tried to play the game?
