os problem

I just finished my first build. p4 2.4ghz. 512mb,asus p4b533 mb ati 7500 64 mb. wd 40gb hdd. I loaded in the ati agp card and everthing was ok. When i went to load a stb tuner card, netgear ethernet, the problems started. I lost resolution and got a message saying that the problem was with the main graphics card meaning the ati card. I went into safe mode and to device manager, saw some conflicts there, and thought i had fix the problem. I decided to remove the pci card and ethernet card and the drivers.I still could not get windows to fully load. I would get a message: "While initializing device ndis windows protection error, you need to restart your computer. I tried to boot up windows in 2 other drives and i get the same message or i get while initializing dvice ios windows protection error......... It seems it get almost to loading windows and it stops loading drivers and gives me the messages. I tried reformatting other drives with win 95,98 so i can get to install an xp upgrade os and i get as far as almost opening windows 95 and the messages start and thats as far as i can go. Any thoughts on how to solve this?

here is what I would do, if your wanting to end ou with xp on your system.

start all over, format thew hard drive to be sure it is clean, install only the video card and then install windows 98, have the cd for the motherboard with the inf files installed next, then install the xp upgrade, then the net gear card, ant the stb tv tunner last, reboot after each hardware install, and last but not least be sure that you have the correct xp drivers and software for the last 3 pices of hardware you install.

I suspect that your tunner card is not xp compataible, and will need to download the updated software and drivers for it.

There is a known issue with Win98FE and earlier with Intel P4's faster than 2.1 GHz.

Use 98SE or a slower processor to do your initial setup.

If I were you, I'd install the first OS on a bare minimum config - just a video card - then do the upgrade, then put the rest of your cards in. Bailey is on the right track - but the problem is not the tuner, it's the nic. NDIS is networking.
