Exclamation microsoft word

ok, This is all i can take...i've been trying to open a document in word and it must be a newer version b/c i can't get it to read on mine ... I've tried evrything i know to do, but all i see is blocks and garbage

ok i downloaded, installed,still getting the squares and stuff

Stupid question: Are you sure it's Word? If you are, have you tried bringing it is as text only document? You'd lose formating but at least you'd have text which you could reformat. Also does your version of Word allow you to specify which version of Word you want to bring the document in as? I'll do some quick research and get back to you -- hopefully with answers.

Are you sure that this is a Word document? Word is pretty good about recognizing other formats if all the converters are installed, but if this is an off-the-wall format that someone has given a .doc extension you are going to have problems no matter what.

what year is the software my mate is having the same problem, and when i installed xp pro no problems at all. must be driving you mad.

Check to see if the extenstion is "doc" or "dat".
