Cant open the file...
Hey guys, I got this file here, I know its a text file, I made it myself, but I think I made it with corel, which I no longer have access too, and this is a pretty important file...so I tried to open it and had XP find out what software I can open it with, they said I needed corel(hence my explanation above
) but anyway, I went to corel.com and I can dl a trial version, but its 170mb...bit much dont you think?Anyone know where I can get a viewer or something...or some how just get the text out and open it in my Microsoft word? Thanks for the help [edit]Well, I went ahead and dled the trial version at Corel, it was Corel worperfect 2002...and get this, the friggin file still says unrecognized format...what gives???

Go here for links to download the right text converter pack for your version of Word.
Word 2000 & 2002 apparently can only convert Word Perfect files up to WP version 4...although way down that page it says Word 97 with its text converter pack can open WP version 5 files as well. Good luck! |

I dont think any of those apply to me. They only seem to offer the ability to convert Microsoft 2000 documetns into Microsoft 2002 documents.
I need something that will allow me to take this unknown version of corel document, and transfer the data to a Microsoft word 2000 document. I could just be misreading what they offer at MS.com, but it doesnt look like they will we able to help me, but thank you for the help Miz [edit]Wait a minute, I think I might be misunderstanding this.."Word Perfect" is made by Corel, and Word is made by Microsoft, so when they say WordPerfect, they mean corel dont they? edit: ok, tried this, went to PROPERTIES>>OPENS WITH>> and I changed it to a Mi Word File, and then as I try and open it, it says file may be corrupt, Im trying to access it from a Floppy btw. So am I S.O.L. or do I still have a chance? Last edited by avx; 03-04-2003 at 08:48 PM. |

What extension does the file end in (.txt, .doc, .hlp, etc)?

well it ended in pdf when I first put it in, then I dled the trial version of corel worperfect2002, and it automatically changed it to a word perfect file, and then I tried to open it up, and it siad "this is not a recognized format" so then I just hit properties and changed it to a M$ file, and then I tried to open it up and it said this file may be corrupt....so it is now a WPD file, and I just cant think of anythign else to do

If it is a PDF file, try opening it with Adobe Acrobat reader. I use Corel, and I have never known it to save a file with a PDF extension.

Yeah, doctorgonzo is right, if it ends in .pdf, it should be able to be opened with Adobe Acrobat. If you changed it by saving it to different file formats though, I don't know if it would open it or not.

Worst case - download a trial of Quick View Plus from Jasc. This will open almost any file on the planet.

That looks like what I need. I tried Jasc.com and they said they let avanstar.com take control of that, so I tried them, and no where could I find a trial version of it. You know where they have them?
nvm, tried dl.com and found it...gonna give it a shot and hopefully it works, thanks for the advice glc

omg...this is just my luck, download.com does not have Quick View plus avialable for download anymore for some reason, and neither do jas.com or aranstar.com...Just when I thought I saw the light at the end of the tunnel...turned out to be a train.
