Looking for a good quality program to record/play/encode CD's and MP3's.
Got the new HD running good and now I'm ready to load my CD collection onto it in MP3 format. I have used Musicmatch in the past but was told there were better quality software out there. I just liked the ease of use and the all in one features of musicmatch. Anyway, I want to convert my cd's to MP3 and burn MP3's and also regular CD's from the MP3's stored on the HD. What program(s) should I use to get good quality recordings and is easy to use and is fast?

I recommend CDex for ripping MP3s:
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/ And Nero for burning CDs: http://nero.com/en/index.html |

Just started my first rip using CDex. It's taking a very long time. I chose "Extract CD tracks to Compressed Audio Files" and it's taking about 3-4 minutes per track. Is it supposed to take this long? Do I have to configure any settings or can I just use the default settings. It just doesn't seem to be redaing the tracks very fast.

Why compress? If you're going to burn them just use CDEX's extraction, don't use compression. You can usually extract a whole CD to MP3 in about 5 minutes or less.

I thought that's what I did. Isn't that extracting and converting to MP3? Anyway, I read the help manual a little and noticed that the defaults were still 0 for "CD speed" and 26 for the "Read Sectors". I have TDK 32/4/8 drive and I set the CD speed to 32 but don't know what number to putin the "Read Sectors" box. The higher number I put the faster the rip right?

One more thing. Do you use Nero to decode or CDex? When I have MP3's on my system and I need to burn in WAV do I decode with Nero and burn or CDex then burn using nero? Also, when I convert to wav, it it stored on my drive cause that would take up a heck of a lot more space wouldn't it?
I guess I just need simple instructions to burn wav from MP3 and also MP3 from MP3. |

Jon,
Same thing just happened with me. I changed some settings and it seemed to go much faster. Try changeing the CD rom settings "Read Sector" to a higher number. The help manual says 400 but I'm still not quite sure what to set mine at. I also set my CD speed to 32 which is the read speed on my drive. You can also try setting a higher thread priority and see if that helps. |
