Question Trialware Question

I am taking a CAD course and have a 30 day Trial of Autocad 2000,After using the program on my pc for two days my HD crashed and burned! After installing a New Hard drive and then installing the CAD program it says "Program already installed on this pc" So how can that be if the HD is new?

Running W-98 on a IBM P-2 450..

You'll need to contact the maker of the software. Am sure they love to send you another copy if they thiink you'll buy it.

Did you reformatted and reinstalled Windows?

How did you "activate" this program? Did it ask you to register it via web after you installed it?

No for 30 days its a free program,You Dont have to register until the 30 days are over...After my HD died i reinstalled Windows on a new HD

The program does not require me to register it via web after its installed until the 30 days are over..So,I am just baffled I guess.Any more ideas?

Is this an additional HDD (a second HDD) or is it a replacement HDD for your crashed one? If it is an additional one, then it doesnt matter if you have an additional drive the information is probably in the registry or in a file on your primary drive.

There is only a single HD in this computer,And the CAD program is on a CD. The message it gives is"This program is already installed on this computer" But it is a brand new HD So how can that be?

But, did you do a fresh install of Windows on that new HD? Or did you just clone the old one?

So you have:

- Completely, brand new HDD
- Only that one single HDD in the machine
- Fresh install of Win98 SE
- Trial installed originally from CD-R and same for new HDD

Sounds strange to me....

There are definately no other storage devices attached to the system except that new HDD? No floppy disk involved or anything?

David.

You have cleared the RAM, right? (completely shut down the PC)

How about trying to clear the CMOS?

Can an application, running under Windows, actually write to your CMOS?

That could be kinda worrying!

Thanks,

David.
