Two icons in system tray?
Somehow, I have gotten two icons for the same program in my system tray. It is for Ontrack System Suite. There have always only been one before. Who knows what to do about safely removing the extra one. I dont want to mess up this progy because it is my firewall, anti-virus, and other important utilities. Thanks, Dan

Check in your start up folder for a double entry - delete one if there is.

Try unchecking it and reboot. Then go back in and enable it again.

What do you mean by uncheck it? On the start up items tab, in msconfig?

I unchecked it after running msconfig, rebooted and low and behold- they are both still there in all their glory. Atually, there are three. The Net Defense Firewall has an icon of it's own. It is also part of the ontrack progy. Anyone else got an idea? I still dont know how the new one got there.

I probably should have asked you this first: Do you want "ontrack" in your system tray? If not, just leave it unchecked.

Yep, I want it there. I run a couple apps at start up from ontrack. These are the tool bar, firewall, anti-virus, system checker, and maybe one or two I cant think of.

You do realize that your dancing ape is moderately annoying right? At least it's small.

Aww... I thought it was kinda cute
![]() Could you uninstall ontrack, reboot, then reinstall it? [edit]: btw, do one of the doubled icons in the tray disappear if you put your mouse over it? |

Try some registry hacking.
Run "regedit" HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run See if the program is listed there. There are usually three or four levels of start time execution for Windows. The batch files and config.sys do the more low level stuff. The registry keys will run and then whatever is in the "startup" folder in start menu. There are some programs that can load without being in any of these categories. I never invested much time to find out how they do this, but usually they let you check off the stuff in the menu. You say there are three icons? Are you sure they are all the same? Are they usually grouped together into one icon like a manager? I have no idea what the program is, but just throwing wild suggestions out. Respectfully, Demosthenes |
