Ghost ing
I recently sent to Western Digital for a replacement hard drive, and used one I had on the shelf as a replacement till the RMA one returned.
I got the drive back and decided to ghost over the temporary HDD to the RMA one. It seems it will start and run till the very end and then restart the computer-then bringing you back to the A prompt again, never allowing you to completely ghost over the drive. I have never ran into this before.any ideas???tia |

Are you using Ghost or the cloning function in WD's EZ-Install?

Hi RobH,
The jumpers do need to be properly set on the drives or you can run into problems that way, too... TwoRails |

Had tunnel vision, RobH, as I was thinking of only one channel... It should work with two masters on two channels. (I take it you pulled the plug on any other drives?)

Remember that WD's can't be jumpered as Master if it's the only drive on the cable - you pull the jumper or use cable select if you have 80 wire cables.

I don't know, RobH. Never ran into that, either... I take it the system runs normally otherwise? Both drives check out as good if scandisked?
I've only used Ghost 2002, but it's never just decided to reboot on it's own, and I've Ghosted probably a 100 times on different systems... Did you take a look at their Web site for clues?? TwoRails |

Why don't you just try EZ-Install and see if its cloning utility works? It's not perfect, but if it finishes, it's right, and it's free.
I haven't run into a drive yet that I can't clone with EZ-Install/Maxblast/ (fill in the blank with appropriate manufacturer) or Powerquest Drive Copy. The toughest one I've run into yet was cloning a 6 gig Win2K WD drive to a new 80 gig WD - EZ-Install didnt work, and neither did Drive Copy till I just told it to clone to an exact sized partition - then I used Partition Magic to stretch the 6 gig partition out to the full 80 gigs. |

How are you cloning with Ghost?
Are you running under a DOS diskette for maximum reliability? Are you cloning the temp HDD direct to the new one? If so, perhaps try creating an image file on a CD or even the new HDD. If that works, and Ghost verifies the image (using its 'check' function), then copy it back to the original, and restore to the new HDD from the image? HTH, David. |

I have ran ghost from a bootable floppy,I have ran it from the run window in windows from the main drive.
Last night I finally gave up and loaded windows and then moved all the files he wanted to save.Im gonna let him load his own software other than that. Thanks guys for all the help,Ill remember ezinstall, and try that if I ever run into this again..again thanks |
