i have question.
i want to put some word document password-protected. How can i do it. is it possible to do it in Office XP microsoft word or i need some other program to do it |

I'd just forget about it. I did it with Word 97, but then just open the document in another editor (like WordPad) and the password is gone.

Not sure about other office versions, but it can't be much different. In Office 97, when you go to save the file, click Save As, then when the box comes up, click on Options, and you will see the option to password protect the file. Another option would be to put the files you want to protect in a different folder, zip and password them.

I don't have XP, but in 2000 you go to Save As, then click on Tools and then General Options. XP should be similar.
I think M$ changed encryption algorithms between Office 97 and 2000. With Office 97, it was pretty trivial to get around the password protection, but it is much more difficult with 2000 and later. Even so, you can't just open it in another program, no matter what version. |

I see. Well, then password protection seems to work now.
When I once did it with Word 97 I was able to open it in WordPad, thus it didn't make sense for me. RJ |
