kazaa grrrrrrrrrrrr
oh ive got a rant for you. I HATE KAZAA. its such a pain, i had to get it so i could download something i couldn't find anywhere else, and when i went to uninstall it, vwala no uninstall so i cant ever be sure i got rid of everything it did. NOT ONLY THAT, but multiple files could not be sent to the recycle bin, only way i was able to deal with it was by moving the entire folder into the recycle bin. Norton antivirus could not even quarantine them. Are there anyways that i culd go back to how it was before i downloaded it. I know there are way but are there any i could do. I failed to make a restart point with my norton system works, and i didn't manually make any either with the windows xp pro disk backup program. I tried to go back to a date that it said one was automaticly made but three different ones wouldn't work. I have uninstalled just about everything i have on it, its just for gaming basicly. I think the only option is to re-install the operating system, which i am inclinced to do to get a clean slate to work with. Once i do that and i reinstall norton system works 2003 what is the best way to make a restart point. Sorry my mind is blanking on the correct terminology for it, but by restart point, or anything like that i mean a saved configuration that my computer can go back top in the future to whipe out anything stupid that i have done to mes up how it works. THanks for sticking with me on this unbelievably long post.

What OS?
If you have ME or XP, just do a system restore. If you have 98, boot to DOS, and run scanreg, choose a date before you messed it up. Next time, use kazaalite, and get rid of systemworks. The only thing you need in there is the AV, and make sure it's updated and running while you're downloading. |

The only way to completely remove Kazaa is a reformat.
Why are you using System Works when XP has a system restore function? The only worthwhile component of System Works is the antivirus in my opinion. |

the os is xp
i have allready tried to use its system restore function, when i go back to before installing kazaa is doesn't work. I click the date, choose the restore point, and then click next, i follow the steps and then my machine restarts. When it starts back up again it says it was unable to restore to this point. By the way i am not using a restore point that i manually had it make, it was an automatic one. I think i will stick with bearshare for everything that i can get from it, and if necesarry i will get kazaa lite but i have had many problems with kazaa and dont really trust them. True i have never tried kazaa lite, but i went to what i thought was the correct website to get it, and for somereason never downloaded it, i think it was just not clear where to go to get it, but it could have been some other reason. My feelings are if its possible for kazaa to make kazaalite with no spyware, why do they even keep regular kazaa, i feel there must be a catch with kazaa lite somewhere, just my untrusting feelings about kazaa. The reason i am using system works is i was able to get system works 2003 for $17, and i like norton(yes big name business) Is reformatting the same thing as, or be accomlpished by re-installing the OS. If it is only part of it, is there a much easier free way to just reformat? If it is the same thing as re-installing the OS how long does it usually take xp pro to re-install. I am using about 7 of my 120 gigabytes, and the rest of my system specs are in my signature which can be seen in first post THANKS A BUNDLE (no im not mad just saying it emphaticly, i think thats the right usage of the word) |

Kazaalite has nothing to do with Kazaa, except for the familiar interface. It's totally safe (well, as safe as any P2P filesharing prog can be). At least it won't screw with your settings and privacy and popups and ads and spyware like Kazaa.
Kazaa is advertising based, and "they" keep it because they make money from the sponsors every time you download, install, and run it. The other "they" know better, and removed all the crap, but left the nice interface, for "us" that belong to the other "they" that now know better ![]() If you know where to look, you can manually rid yourself of Kazaa, but it can take out your tcp/ip settings at the same time. The removal procedure is almost as risky as installing it in the first place, and I too would recommend a format/reinstall. Return System Works, and get your money back, then download and install AVG free. Reinstalling over top will NOT rid you of all the Kazaa crap. Bearshare has almost as much spyware as Kazaa, dump them both and use kazaalite, or WinMX. There's a whole thread on P2P filesharing progs somewhere, do a search for it, I posted it. |

i just guessed that both wre made by same people because of simliar names, my bad. Where would i find AVG, I am a little confused, you said that you recomend a format/reinstall, but then say that reinstalling over top will NOT rid me of all the kazaa crap. aren't those contradictory or is one different from the other, if so, how do i do the correct one. thanks a bundle |

Heh, a format and then install will start you fresh.
A simple repair install will not. AVG is at www.grisoft.com For a fresh install of XP, just boot to the XP CD, and select New Install, you will be prompted to format the drive (which is what you want) and install Windows. THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING, so make backups of anything important first. |

Yes, it will be starting you totally from scratch.
Don't return System Works - but only install the antivirus, you might as well use that as long as you have paid for it and it's a decent antivirus. Jim hates it but I've never had any major problems with it. I wouldn't give you 2 cents for the other stuff in that package though. |

I suppose the AV is ok. It's just such a huge piece of bloatware that I dislike it's size most of all. It's really a non-issue because of the size and low price of hard drives today.
Actually $17 for the AV alone is almost worth it ![]() If you have Ghost in that package, that's the only other bit of software worth using from Symantec (IMHO). |

I think i do, not certain though, thats another program for restoring to a previous date correct??
im not the most experienced in buying AV's but i thought $17 was pretty cheap for a 2003 version of anything nowadays, seeing how office xp is like $200. sheesh software is expensive. i have what ever comes with systemworks 2003 |

Ghost is a super simple way of making an exact copy of everything on one drive, and saving it to an image file, or copying one drive/partition to another. You can then have a working backup of everything, or burn the image to CD and keep it safe.
You can also Ghost over a LAN, Ghost to a USB device (external drive)...lots of options. |

get rid of that KAZAA, go to WinMX.com and use it, MUCH better, MORE control and ABSOLUTELY NO SPAM, SPYWARE or other OS-killing stuff on it.
