CRASH Win98 full install on win95 on presario4780

I was wondering how to install a full version of win 98 on win 95, which is all on a Compaq Presario 4780.

I think this comp has a 4 gig harddrive that is split into two (C:\ and D:\) because win95 don't support 2+ gig harddrives (am I rite?). Will the stuff from the D: be deleted with install? Can I prevent that?

Well, for a normal PC, you can format C: you can overwrite C: you can even delete and re-create C:, it won't affect anything on D: (that's the purpose of partitioning).
BTW, it's the FAT16 file system that doesn't support 2+ gig partitons.

However, you have a Compaq PC and I believe it can cause troubles when you just upgrade the normal way. Don't know much about it, but I think it's not that easy to upgrade on a Compaq coz of some propietary stuff.

Because of what RJ said I think you may be safer with the win98 upgrade disk, I'm not sure but I think if you already have the full version win98 disk and put in in with win95 up and running it will perform an upgrade for you, that way you don't wipe anything out or loose anything like that propriatery compaq stuff that is on their PC's...

Boot with a 98 startup disk with CD support, rename c:\windows\win.com to win.old, then do the 98 setup from the CD and it will allow you to upgrade. Make SURE you install to c:\windows and NOT c:\windows.000.

HOWEVER - I do not recommend that you try to install 98 on that thing - you are going to go through driver hell. If a Compaq ain't broke, don't fix it.
