Weird MS Works problem
Hello, people.
I have a client that recently upgraded from a Windows 98 machine running Microsoft Works. This version of Works is OLD, a Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 version. They upgraded to an XP Pro machine, and Works Suite 2000. The problem, in some of the old Works spreadsheet files that they created however many years ago, and even the newly created files using the old Works, when they open them in Works 2000, the dates are wrong. Specifically, in the spreadsheet, they have the forst column as dates, ie: 09/13/2003 (it's an inventory). But when it shows in Works 2000, it shows as: 09/13/1903. And they're all like that, hundreds if not thousands of entries. What gives? They could change it manually, but it must be some glitch or setting? What am I missing? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Randy |

Did they just upgrade the software? What kind of system are they operating off of? It sounds like you have an old Y2K problem, where the computer does not recognize dates after 2000. They revert back to 1900.

Holy Cow! That thought never even crossed my mind!
The Works was old, and they just recently had me backup their files, build them a new computer, install XP Pro and Works 2000 and move their files back. I bet the Y2k is the problem! Although I'm grateful for your answer, I don't think the seceratary is gonna be very happy to hear that she has to go in and manually change a thousand or so entries. |

Check with some of the more experienced people here. There may be a program fix that will save her much time.

If the dates are consistant..i.e.
1903=2003 1902=2002 etc... you should be able to do a find/replace all. If there is no rhyme or reason, then that's a different story. |
