Restoring a Compaq

I've got this Compaq presario with windows 2000 on it. I want to restore it back to the original windows 98 using the recovery cd, but I am having some problems. When I put hte cd in like your supposed to, and then re-boot, it says some things about windows, then gives me the "A:\" floppy drive command line thing. It is supposed to be a blue screen with recovery cd options. Does any one know what to do??
Thanks

Cool

Did you change file system to NTFS when you converted to 2000? You can check by right clicking drive and selecting porperties.

Cool

You need to get the drive back to FAT32 to load WIN98. I've never run WIN2000 but you might try booting with the CD and see if it will give you the option to convert to FAT32. If not, do a Google search for NTFS conversion utilities.

Zero fill the hard drive with a utility from the hard drive manufacturer.

One of the two ways should work.

-Delete all the partitions and then try to boot to the recovery CD.

if that fails:

-Create a primary partition, format it and even make it bootable and then try to run it.

Restoring a Compaq

I have found that the easiet and surest way to wipe out NTFS partitions and Linux etc. etc. is to use a program called Killdisk. It's free and it never leaves anything on the drive to cause you problems.
