Wolfenstein/XP Problems
Hi guys. I just finished recently building my new cpu. I bought a few games, such as Return to Wolfenstein and Age of Empires II. However, whenever I play either game I get GPF or a blue screen with an error on it with an automatic restart. I can never understand what the blue page says since it shows for only a second and then goes to automatic restart. I talked with both Activison and Microsoft and both havent been the most helpful with finding my problem. Does anyone have an idea? I have reinstalled the game, updated to all patches, have latest drivers etc. Here is my system:
Athlon 2400+ A7N8X Asus 512 Crucial 2700 Radeon 9500 Pro SB Live 5.1 Maybe it is XP Pro? |

I appreciate the help. However, I have done that already, instructed by Activision. I still have the same problem. Oh well.

It's not temps. It will be either a video card driver, or Direct X problem (in most cases).
Right click My Computer, select Properties, then go to the Advanced tab. Click on the Settings button for "Startup and Recovery", and in the bottom pane, take the tick mark OUT of "Automatically restart". Now run the game and post the details of the BSOD. |

I am the getting the same error. It is with wolfmp.exe every time. I have reinstalled this game, I have reinstall XP twice. I have the recommended requirements and more and I still have problems. How come I can have errors with this game and not any others at this time? It is really frustrating when playing a game to just freeze up when it wants. Any other suggestions?

Do you have APIC enabled in the BIOS?
Hit WinKey + Break to bring up the System Properties, click on the Hardware tab, then click on Device Manager. In the menu bar, click on View and select Resources by Type. Expand the IRQ branch and check if the VC and the sound card are sharing the same IRQ. In what PCI slot did you put the sound card? Remember you must never use the first PCI slot. |

APIC is enabled. Nothing is conflicting with my IRC settings. The only conflict I have is a yellow exclamation point next to my USB. I am trying to figure that one out. Any other ideas?

What is that USB conflicting with?
Select the USB and click Properties. |

Could I be having a problem with my main board? (Asus A7N8X w/Nforce)? I am running out of ideas what it could be...

Hi there,
Try removing the sound card and any other PCI cards you may have. Boot and run the game. Yes, without sound. See if it crashes. Check your mobo for leaking capacitors. Also, check the ASUS forums to see if there are ppl with the same issue. |

I tried it NK, and at first was working great. However, after a while, I was engaged with problems. My cpu did an automatic restart and then when I tried again, got the GFP errors.

I strongly suspect a HW problem here. I guess it's time to test the CPU in another mobo.
If you have already tested the RAM, then it's either the mobo, CPU or VC. Does the HD make strange noises? |

Not at all. I feel like it has to be the mobo. If it is, I assume I have to just take a loss on it?

Could the problem be with your RAM?
I had the EXACT same problem when I bought my PC2100 DDR. Before, I was using PC133 so I had to switch jumpers on my board to use the DDR. The jumpers weren't seated all the way, and all was well til I fired up RTCW. I got the blue screen for a split sec and the machine reboot. Even if you don't have jumpers like me, try seeing if your RAM is seated all the way.

Do a favor for us. Right click "My Computer" and go down to "Properties." Then click the tab "Advanced" and go to the "Startup and Recovery" button. There you should uncheck the "Automatically Restart" box and then you will be able to see what kind of blue screen error you are getting. They that will help most people figure out the problem very quickly and reasure you that you are not doing something wrong... :-)

I have just gone through a similar problem and it turned out to be a bad motherboard and a the fan on my video card. Also my VIA chipset did not agree with my computer configuration. It could be 1 of many things. Let me know your error line though when you unclick the automatic restart!
Good Luck! |
