Layer 3 Codec?

Hi all

Ive just been given a home video from a friend in the USA on CD, but its in MPEG Layer-3 mode.

Does anyone know where I can download the necessary codec for Windows Media Player 8.0 (XP Pre Installed)?

I have downloaded about 5 different codecs and still no luck. I get the sound but no picture at all.

If anyone has one they can send me, please let me know as well.

Many thanks

Karl

Try his site: http://www.divx.com/

Or, you could upgrade WMP to version 9.

Ive downloaded the latest WMP and still no luck. Ive downloaded the Codecs from Microsoft and installed and still no luck.

WMP keeps sending a request for a codec and it dont ever get sent and an error occurs....

Any further ideas on a Mpeg Layer 3 Codec for WMP? Anyone know where to download them from?

MPEG Layer 3 is an audio layer in video layers. The reason why you're only getting sound is because it isn't a video file. It's an MP3 file.

The same file shows the video on my girlfriends computer, and the exact same file only plays sound on my computer. What codex do I need as this IS a video, and where do I get it?

Thanks very much for your help. I just got a new codec setup from my brother. It was the Nimo setup as suggested before, but this one was a newer one and it worked!

Ill download that one as well though just to test it out as I dont really like WMP.

Thanks for all the help guys, it was really appreciated!
