Winzip

Hi all, i use winzip evaluation version 8.1. I know a lot of people use it all the time. Lately though it has been saying, "evaluation has expired", yet it still works. Whats up with that? Do any of you guys just ignore it and how long have you ignored it for?

Mine has expired, but I don’t care. It still works, and I don’t want to pay for such a simple program.

I don't think it matters. I've been using the same verson for over 4 years (version 8.0) that said "evaluation has expired".

I use it all the time, although I think I may be the only one that paid for it...LOL. I use it daily and I think they deserve to be paid for their work. I suppose if they really cared if individuals used it they wouldn't provide all those working unregistered copies. Their thinking may be similiar to Adobe's thinking about Acrobat.

Why's that? As long as it works, I usually just leave it.

right, they did that so you can keep useing it.

if they did not want you to use it, they would have disabled it so you couldn't

Exactly! That's what I was trying to say!

Just look at some of the trialware that's out there; 10 days, 30 days, or by the number of usages, then that's it. No matter how you try, you can't renew it unless you buy it or reformat your HDD. A 10-30 day trial is hardly worth reformatting. You may as well purchase it and be done with it.

Whoops, I guess I stepped up on that darn soapbox again...

Yea, I know that I can still use it, but I have to side with tuf, That pop-up telling me my evaluation time is up, just starts those guilty feelings at least in ultimate zip they have a "donate" button in the help drop down list. The old "out of sight out of mind" solution, I know it's there but it isn't staring me in the face everytime I use it.

I just go past it without reading it.

I don't believe I every actually read WinZip's pop-up. Yep, "out of sight; out of mind". As long as it works, I don't have a problem with it. As long as it works, I reason that it was ment to and if they wanted to end the "trial", they could.

you could use a hex editor to make it say, "you are so cheap..." in the title bar. (that would make me smile every time i use it)
