problems with .msi files

Hi

I think I am having problems with .msi files. i tried to install vmware,patition magic,and omini page..they all give same kind of errors..like failed to extrac dll_.ini

help?

are you installing these to different computer with an automated installation across a network? If you're installing them locally then I suggest using the setup.exe. The .msi files are only meant to be used in a networking environment.

Do you have the "Windows Installer" service running?
Go to Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services, and enable the service if it's not already enabled.

yes,i had it disabled..but even if its started,the setup wouldnt run.
i checked and researched and it turned out winxp had some bad things in windows installer. the documenttaions recommended me to upgrade to sp1. after i installed sp1,everything was smooooooooth
