Direct X question
I currently have Win XP with Direct X 8.1 installed, has anyone had any experience with Direct X 9 using Radeon 9500 Pro as far as gaming or bench marks? I know once you install Direct X 9 you can't uninstall it, so I wan't to know if it is worth it?

I also have a Radeon 9500 Pro and have Dx8.1 and plan on installing Dx9 in the near future. I wouldn't be worried about it. You can uninstall it but it will be a pain. I anticipate that many new games will utilize it so watch out for that.
![]() As for the time being, just relax because there are no games that need it now...

I'm running DX9.0 on my machine (look at sig) right now. ATI does have some cool demos that use DX9, make sure you d/l those. As for performance, I don't notice any difference one way or another.

lol, i wish it were that easy. I dont like having my PC on overnight (too much noise, heat etc.). Also, dialup is such a pain that i dont want to give it the satisfaction of me using it for extended periods of time.

I have a 9500pro and DX9.0a with the 3.2 cats and except for one game, a beta test that has an NDC, everything is working fine.
Spare yourself grief, if you have XP or ME create a System Restore point before the install. |

Pam, I was just going to point that out! Also, I didn't even have to download it, I installed it off of the Splinter Cell CD.

Thanks for all of your input.
I installed DX9 and was able to increase my 3D Mark 2001 score from 11,961 to 12,058. That is quite an improvement! Now if I can just figure out how to increase the RAM settings in bios for more performance, I think I can improve 3D Mark even more. Any suggestions? I have a Asus P4PE board, P4 2.4B, and two sticks of Muskin PC 2700 Ram. |

if you install directx 9.0 on vc's that dont support 9.0 in hardware mode, you arent gonna see dx9's special effects. dx9 will give insturctions but the vc will just ignore them..and only do the ones it know how to do.
yes,you do gain tiny performance increase because of better and improved code base. so,if you have dail-up,dont bother..it doesnt do much,if any at all. if you have cable and have some time to burn, and hungry for performance,i guess...go for it. |
