A client brought me his computer with the problem that his menu and button bars in Word and Powerpoint had turned to big buttons and the menu bars had vanished.
I checked it and found that when I right clicked next to the button bars I noticed that no "normal" bars were in the pop-up menu to select. Only Personalized Bar 1, Personalized Bar 2, etc. There were 5 personalized bars and no Format, Tools, Tables, etc. bars. I eliminated all the personalized bars and now I have no bars at all. So I cleaned all the spyware, ran a virus scan. Virii were found and eliminated. Uninstalled Office and reinstalled it and the problem persists. Any ideas? How can I make those bars visible again? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

You could try this: right click on any of the toolbars > customize > "toolbars" tab > check "menu bar"

you HAVE to see in my Wordxp, you have to see "Menu Bar". everybuttom/bar is hideable, but taht is left. on the right upper corner of that bar, there is a lil down arrow, from which you can enable the buttom.

It happens, BearEater, albeit very rarely.
Nuke, are any other office progs experiencing the same thing, or is it just word? Have you tried a repair, instead of a reinstallation? You also may want to take a look at the Service Pack. I can't recall if it addresses your problem or not, though. |

Believe me BearEater, I have clicked everywhere and no "menu bars" can be brought up. And it's not Office XP but Office 2k so no down arrows appear anywhere.
FF2K2, this is happening in Powerpoint too. And yes, I tried reparing to no avail. |

Hi NK
Did you try deleting normal.dot? Here's a link to MS knowledge base that might help also. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;242368 good luck! |

Hi Cheryl,
Yep, my first idea was to delete the normal.dot. No use. But your link to the MKB really solved my problem. Turned out it was a corrupted registry entry. I renamed it and voilà!, all is good and running smoothly again. Thanks a bunch!!
