udf reader

I've researched several threads in the forums and several websites looking for a solution, all to no avail. So here goes for suggestions.
I recently built a new system and installed a Liteon 52x cd-rw burner. It came with Nero burner software which I really like. Works slick. Problem is, my old system had an old Phillips cd-rw burner with Adaptec/Roxio Ez software. Now I can't read my open rw cd's on my Liteon drive. I have quite a large file of photos on several rw cd's and none are accessible. The file folders are all showing up, but none of the content.
I tried downloading an Adaptec UDF reader for xp from CNET.com but that only locked up the system and gave me the evil BSOD. I suspect it conflicts with the Nero udf reader because I mistakenly loaded both sets of software on my son's computer when I installed my old burner for him. REALLY locked things up for a while!
I now downloaded the latest Nero update, but it is the same version I had. Interestingly tho, I had two blank cd-rw disks already formatted for use on the old Phillips drive and the Nero wouldn't even do anything with them before the download. Now the Nero wizard says they are useable. I haven't tried to write anything yet. The real problem is reading the Photo disks.
Oh yeah, none of the Photo disks were closed. The were kept open to allow continued additions.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanx

Why not try the latest version of Nero InCD from Nero's site? It's free for use for registered users of Nero 5.5 and above. It should be able to read those CD's for you.

You can have both Roxio and Nero on a computer, but if you try to install both DirectCD and InCD, you will have a real mess. They are supposedly cross compatible, but in the real world this is iffy.

To rescue your files, try this - uninstall any packet writer (InCD, DirectCD) and reader (Adaptec UDF) you may have installed - and try to read them. I think XP has a native UDF reader. If this doesnt work, go to www.ntius.com and download the trial of FileCD, see if this will read them. If it does, copy everything off, spend the $20 for the full version of FileCD, and reformat your disks.

Thanx, glc. Makes sense. I'll give it a try and post back.

pillainp, forgot to mention in my post that I had already done just that, and the In CD still won't read the disk.

Got it to work, glc. Removed all the nero software first. Then looked at he NTI site. Realized I had that software here from I don't know where. Disc compatible w/xp, too! Decided however to download the roxio/adaptec reader first and see if the previous failure was related to both nero and roxio in conflict. This time it loaded ok and worked to view almost all the files. About 4 were unreadable for some reason. Anyway, copied them all to a separate partition on HDD and put each cd in a separate folder. Now I can uninstall the roxio, reinstall the nero (tho I may give the nti a try first) and burn some new cd's. Buncha time spent, but at least the pics are saved. Thanx again for all your help. This site/forum is one of the most knowledgeable I have seen for solving computer challenges. (there are no problems, only challenges, right?)
