system info on the desktop

How do you put system information on the desktop? For example, I saw it on Eric H's desktp that he posted in the new desktop thread. here's what he had. Thanks.

Take picture with digital camera

Place photo on computer

Go into desktop properties and browse to the pic to be used as wall paper.

I didn't ask the question very clearly, sorry about that. What I meant to ask was how to the the information that he has next to the picture of his dog (the part that says: system: Processor 13%, RAM 313 of 512mb, Disk Space: 13.4g of 80.1g Network Connection: IP Address: whatever)
