A program like CloneCD can copy a CD to you hard drive. You can mount the CD image so it looks like a CD drive to your OS.

EDIT: For ripping songs, I use Exact Audio Copy.

Using Explorer, right click on the song, drag and drop, select copy. (I think that works...)
If not, get CDEX and rip the songs to the hard drive.

If you have powertoys
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/d...w95pwrtoysset/ for win 9x. or http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en for xp)
and the "send to any folder" option installed, all you need do is open the folder for the drive the cd is in, edit-select all, right click-send to-any folder. Decide where you want the cd and it's ripped in seconds.
I'm not sure if the powertoys xp version has the "send to...." option, maybe it's built into xp.

How bout opening Windows Media Player and use the tab "Copy CD"? Assuming you want to listen to them, you can do so with Media player

Panama Red and Milkman-
have you actually copied a cd to your hard drive with the WMP?? I believe if you look carefully, you will find the option is to Copy TO CD, not Copy CD.......

i use cdex, you can copy the files to wavs or mp3s, it lets you know basically how many scratches are on each song and is easy to use.

Hi guys,
Personally I use Audiograbber which is available here:

Audiograbber

Dan, did as you suggested and reexamined WMPlayer. On the left border, I have a tab labeled Copy from CD. With a CD in the drive, this will copy your music CD to your HDD. It will become part of your media library (another tab). There is also a tab labeled "Copy to CD". I'm referring to WMPlayer 9. I've used this many times and it works great. You can direct the storage location prior to download, too. I keep my music in a partition I call music disk. It is my D disk.

PR-
I don't have your version (v.7), have read a lot of bad press about v.9 so I never updated...maybe this option is a good reason to finally do the upgrade...have you had any problems since you upgraded??

...and thanks fredwest for the link.
audiograbber seems like a full featured program complete with plugins and patches...not bad for free.

Hey Dan, hard for me to answer the question of problems. This system is only about 7 weeks old. I loaded it with XP Home SP1 when I built it and the WMP ver 9 came with it. I haven't had any difficulties with WMP specifically, but I'm still chasing some random blue screen crashes in Windows and IE interruptions/shut downs. Seems like I did have one WMP shut down but it was playing a downloaded mpeg, not music related. If you do upgrade and experience any difficulties, I'm sure all here would appreciate knowing.
Maybe I should add that I had wmp9 on my old system too, but it was 98se and it had so many problems, I don't know what they all were related to!

The free Audiograbber will not rip a whole CD, it will only rip about half the tracks and you have to do it again. The pay version removes this restriction. CdEx has no cripples or restrictions and does a fine job.
