Question lost excel file - please help

one of the users here saved an excel file onto the server. Now it's gone. It was not deleted and if I go to restore a copy to it's original location it says the file already exists, but you can't see the file name at all (no files are hidden to view either). I got R Studio software to restore it and this software can see it but after I restore it, it's still can't be seen. If I restore it to a blank floopy the space appears to be used but no files appear on the disk. Any ideas?

To confirm, you can restore the file to a blank floppy, and the floppy disk space available falls, but there is no file shown??

Is the floppy okay? You can run a scandisk on a floppy from Windows, and / or do a FULL re-format to be sure.

Perhaps that will resolve it, but given you have the same symptoms on a network drive, sounds like the file is somehow corrupt to me.

David.

I figured it out. Somehow when the user closed and saved the excel file, it saved it as a hidden, read only, system file. go figure. thanks anyway
