I have to say before I start that I know next to nothing about how outlook works, and that the only e-mail i do is through hotmail. What I'm wondering is: how do you get an address to use for outlook express? as far as I can tell, you have to sign up for some domain name in order to get an e-mail address that you can check through outlook express. For example, the moderators have the e-mail address whoever@pcmech.com. If I were to email this address, would they be checking it through outlook (or some other similar program)? When I worked last summer I got an email address something like this: myname@cmtc.army.mil or something. When I got emails I checked them through outlook. If what I'm saying so far is somewhat true (doubtful), what's an easy way to get an address like this that I can check on my computer while off the internet? I noticed that when the sites that sell domain names, they advertise "10 e-mail accounts". So, if i were to register a domain from them and call it www.whatever.com, would my address be myname@whatever.com and allow me to check it on outlook? also (and finally) how do assign/change the myname part of myname@whatever.com to cameroth@whatever.com and give a friend the e-mail address loser@whatever.com or something? I hope that my rambing made some sense, and I hope that some one can help me out here; i really have no idea what i'm doing or talking about. Thanks in advance!!!

most small internet service providers will allow you to use your e-mail through outlook. the bigger ones (like aol) require their own e-mail program.
you can actually get your hotmail e-mail through outlook express. just go tools-accounts and add a new e-mail account. just type in your e-mail address and it should recognize that you're using hotmail and add the neccessary information to enable to you access it. if you want to change your e-mail address, you'd have to talk to your isp or mail host.

Outlook will work with ANY e-mail account that's standard POP3 or IMAP. My provider (Earthlink) allows me something like 6 e-mail addresses, they are standard POP3. Hotmail, AOL, Yahoo, etc. are not standard, they are either proprietary or Webmail. Hotmail will work with Outlook Express (because it's HTTP mail compatible) but not Outlook.

I prefer Pegasus because Outlook Express is a huge security hole due to its popularity.
