Is It Better To Uninstall Program From Windows Add/Remove or the Program Uninstaller

Is it better to uninstall a program from Windows add/remove or is it better to uninstall a program from the program uninstaller or does it make any difference either way. I always use the Windows add/remove to uninstall but some people told me it is better to use the program uninstaller because the Windows uninstaller might not catch everything.

if you go to add/remove programs and select a program, windows will run the program's uninstaller, so it doesn't make any difference.

So that means I have been wasting my time all these years installing programs from Windows add/remove when I could have just used the program's installer.

Some programs will remove themselves completely with their own uninstaller. Then there are programs that purposefully leave files and registry entries (like spyware and trojans). I have used both Windows add/remove programs and Uninstaller. I have no way to back this up, but I think the Uninstaller program gets rid of more. Howerver, some spyware can avoid all of the above. I still search the registry after an uninstall for both the programs name and company name...you would be surprised how many entries are sometimes left behind.

I think it's the installer that tells windows what to remove and what to keep, so even if it's spyware, it can tell windows to leave its files.

yes, the writers of spyware and trojans know the code...and how to use it...while we are left behind a gui, at the mercy of clicks and buttons.....
