please help me understand ..

Hi - im running windows XP pro. ive got a few pictures that ive taken with my digital camera and saved them to my hard drive, i did a search for all the pictures on my hard drive (start - search - pictures) and all the pictures i have come up twice in the search..i did the same search but for video (i have a dedicated video folder) and again each video is listed twice..so i downloaded 1 picture from the net and saved that into my picture folder and again did a search for pictures and sure enough it comes up twice..(if i deleate a picture or video from there folders then in the search both copies are gone - Why do they come up twice in my search ? is this normal for XP?

please help

thanks..

rs125,
Do they come up in different folders or is it showing two in the same folder.
I save alot of pictures and there will be one in the folder I saved it too, and one in Documents.
When I clear Documents, I then have one picture.

Once in My Documents, My Pictures, and again in Shared folders, My Docs...
That's so that they're available to all users of the computer.
You can turn it off if you want.
One of the main reasons I don't save ANYTHING in My Documents/My pictures...

Ive just had a look in my shared documents and there is nothing in there.. also the location is the same (my documents/my pictures or videos etc) so how can they be in a different location ?

The computer doesn't actually put a digital copy in that folder, it just thinks it's there in case you want to share it.
When you search, you get two of everything, one is the REAL one, the other is the one XP thinks you might want to share with someone, so it's put into shares, although not actually copied into shares.
Clear as mud?
