When you render a picture (2d or 3d), what is stressed more: the video card or the CPU?

Force I had been looking at the same question looking toward my next build. It is going to be at least a 2.4 Intell 533 if not 800 fsb with 512 meg of 2700 or higher ram. It is going to be for video / audio editing

I was looking at the Athlon 2500+. I keep hearing nothing but good feedback about its performance. Should be a nice upgrade from my 1900+.
