Question NAV problem

I'm running NAV Corperate ed. 7.6 on XP Pro. After a virus definition update, where my computer froze, I now have an exclaimation point over its icon in the system tray.

Anyone have an idea what that's for?

Also, I don't have a recent restore point, so that really isn't an option.

I am not entirely sure what the problem may be, but I get that exclamation point on my NAV icon when I disable it (to install software, for example). Manually enabling it clears the icon.

In the tray, there is no check mark to signify that realtime protection is enabled. In the configuration section, the realtime protection tick box is checked.

When I try to enable it from the system tray, I select the realtime protection option, a check mark appear, then disappears.

Would it need to be reinstalled?

I've never heard of that one Force Flow... Have you tried their site? They have a pretty good KB -- it may help before going thru the pain of doing an uninstall...

I uninstalled it and now I can't get it to install.

Okay, I have admin rights under my user, I'm installing NAV locally, have tried loggon on as admin in safe mode (wouldn't even start the installation there--it said to go to normal mode)

Now what?

Go to the Trend Micro Housecall and do an online scan, you may have a virus that disables Norton.

I'll give it a try.

Strange thing is that NAV is working in 98SE.

Virus scan came back negative.
Adaware didn't pick anything up either.

Now what?

I've had problems uninstalling and then trying to reinstall NAV. Don't know what it leaves behind when it is uninstalled, but something isn't right. It has been a while since I have had this problem, so I don't remember the error message exactly, but the "Error 1920.Service Norton AntiVirus Server (Norton AntiVirus Server) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficent privileges to start system services" sounds familiar.

In the end, I had to start everything from scratch. Not fun.

I finally found something on it. Symantec addressed the problem in an article (took a while to find). It says either upgrade to version 7.61 (only if you're a gold member, which I'm not), or alter and delete entries in the registry. I guess I'll try that when I get home.

Ya... the last time I "fixed" a simular problem, I just went into the Registry and deleted everything with "NAV" in it and / or Symantec and other related names... Gotta be careful, though..

REGISTRY that what I was thinking

I had a similar problem when installing NAV 2003 on my laptop
(2003 upgraded nice on my desktop) so I downgraded back to 2002 and it would not install at all so I used registery cleaning tools and after that 2002 installed just fine

Heres the kicker my subscription was runing out on my 2002 version so about a week ago from today I said hell I'll give it another try and 2003 installed with no problems

Don't know why it would not install before (that was about 6 months ago)

But at least it works now

I got it working! Yay!

I had to delete the virus definitions stored in the system and delete a reg key pointing to them. After that, the installation went smoothly.

Thanks guys!
