spybot DISASTERS

I am just wondering, have any of you seen a major problem caused by Spybot?

Last night I had a guy call up. He lost intnernet on one of his PC's. He had a network and the others still had net access.

He primary PC win ME on ethernet could not pull an IP from the router

We uninstalled, restailled the NIC.
rebuilt TCP/IP , comstack, everything we could think of.

At the start of the call he said the last thing he had done was run spybot. He said he even tried the recovery setting.

No matter what I tried we could not pull an IP address.
we even set a static IP on the NIC.

I would have used the system restore back to the day before but system restore had been turned off.

At the end of the call we had to choices, 1 for him to have his computer checked locally, 2, escalate to tier 3.

Over the phone, I was totally out of options, but in a way, wish I could see that PC first hand and take a crack at it.

If the internet connection is taken over by some spyware, and/or other pron diallers are installed in the TCP/IP stack, then spybot can destroy the connection, because it removes the spyware (does it's job properly).
The easiest fix, is to use add/remove programs to remove everything you can, remove all networking protocalls, then get the winsock fix here: http://members.shaw.ca/techcd/
