down size a bmp file?
i have a bmp file that is about 1.5mb and i would like to make it smaller for sending on dialup faster...is there something in windows to do this?......btw i'm running win98se.......any help would be good......thanks

Well, Paint could do that, but the quality loss is noticeable. The best would be if you download a program like ACDsee or similar that does the job well. The preferred format to convert into would be JPEG.

Get Irfanview www.irfanview.com (it's free) and simply convert it to a .jpg

Rj and Reboot are right...bitmaps by nature tend to be rather large. (although I've never seen a loss in quality when downsizing a bmp in paint). you will lose some quality when converting to jpeg., but unless the recipient intends to print the file in photo quality you won't notice enough difference for it to matter.

thanks guys i used Irfanview and it work out just fine......my son in law was in iraq and he brought me back some iraqi money and thats what i scanned and e-mail to a freind.....thanks for the help
