OS/Driver Installation Procedures...

Hey...

I have been having a little trouble getting my system to stabilize when I install XP home and my drivers...

Is there a proper procedure as far as what order the service updates, drivers, etc., should be installed?

I wanted to install SP1 before installing the nForce2 and USB 2.0 drivers. I've been doing it like this...

1. XP home
2. 3COM ethernet driver
3. SP1 (sometimes installs, sometimes it doesn't)
4. SATA RAID driver
5. nForce2/USB 2.0 driver
6. DirectX 9.0
7. VGA driver

This is usually successful until I'll restart and out of the nowhere I get the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH and a c000218 message saying...

Registry File Failure
The Registry cannot load the hive file systemroot/system32/config/software or its log or alternate. it is corrupt, absent, or unwriteable.

This happens every time I reformat and reinstall.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks,

Odie

OS, then drivers, then updates.
