Computer hangs up
Just had a major crash. Formatted hard drive and reinstall Windows ME. Reinstall Santa Cruz sound card. Still hangs up when editing after recording from vinyl. When it hangs, cannot end task, have to reset. It reboots to 'Boot Disk Failure'. Turn it off, then on and it boots normally. settings for monitor are 800 x 600, but when on the net, pages are 640 x 480. I also cannot get it to remember my ISP password. The remember box is greyed out. Can anyone tell me why it hangs? The soundcard is the only program I have loaded right now, other than the Windows entourage.

Welcome to the wide and wonderful world of Windows ME (without doubt the absolute bottom of the MS barrel)
Best thing to do is check the vendor website for new drivers. Browse the MS Knowleadge Base for any info concerning your hardwarre. Best solution is to upgrade to Win XP or downgrade to Win98SE. Really ME is trash.

I have already loaded all the latest drivers and scoured the knowledge base. Couldn't find anything to help. As far as ME goes, I know when you say you have ME on your machine everyone gets that little half crooked smile on their face and says OH!!. I did install 98 2nd edition. Was twice as bad as ME on this unit. I have 98 on my smaller unit and no problems ever

Wow! That is the first time I have heard that one. Most (heck all) users I talk to have said just the opposite about ME! So, another question if you don't mind...
other than the problem at hand, are you happy with ME? If so, what do you like about it that either an upgrade to XP or a downgrade to 98SE wouldn't give you as well? My expierence with ME have all been bad. And that is coming from someone who routinely installs, plays with, and then breaks several differnt OS's daily. |
