Question msconfig question

On the startup tab, is there a way to remove the unused entries? Some of them are still installed, but I don't need, while others I have long since removed.

I'm looking for info on this in 98SE and XP; mainly 98SE.

I don't think so. You need to edit the registry manually to remove them, or use a registry tool like jv16 Power Tools.

In 98, unchecked items are in HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run- and runonce- (notice the - sign)
In XP, unchecked items are in
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SharedTools\MSConfig\startupfolder & in startupreg

So, if I delete the subfolders (named for each unchecked prog), it should work with no probs?

Yes, I'll be sure to backup first.

Yup, just delete whatever is in the run- and runonce- folders.
They're not in use anyhow.
