Outlook vs Outlook Express

I had been using OE for E Mails for a long time. I changed AV to NOD32. They have a special E Mail scanner [ EMON] but you have to use Outlook. My question is why do most people use OE . Also I have seen a lot if information on setting OE for security but not Outlook.

I was in pretty much the same boat as you. When I installed Norton Internet Security, it said that I had to use Outlook. I switched and I honestly don't see any drawbacks.

I think that a lot of people use OE for simplicity's sake since it doesn't have quite as many options to deal with. Other folks may have other opinions but I don't see a reason not to switch if you want your e-mail scanner to work.

Another important reason why many ppl use OE over O: OE it's free, Outlook is not.

M$ doesn't charge you for the security holes either!

Other than the O/S, I don't use ANYTHING M$!

I try to stay as far as I can from M$ products too. That is the reason why I hate the MSM Messenger and don't use it.

However, most of the time, we are forced to use M$ products. I need to use Outlook because of it's PIM features and synchronization with handheld devices.

I don't like them simply because they don't provide secure software and don't seem to even pretend to want to do so. Most of those viruses that take down computer networks and cost millions target security holes in M$ products, and is the company held responsible? Nope.

Even so, I use Outlook Express with my Hotmail account. I don't know of anything else that works with Hotmail.

If they want to be a monopoly, they are going to be targeted by all the hackers, it creates more damage that way. Use 3rd party software and that's usually left alone. I browse with Opera and email with Pegasus and have minimal security problems.

Nope. The only free service I'm aware of that works with Pegasus is myrealbox.com, that's POP3 or IMAP, your choice. Everything else is web based.

Boone, I use it because of simplicity's sake. Outlook has too many prefs that I can fool around with and it gets very distracting when I'm trying to work :-)
