RealOne Player fails to start

i click and click on the desktop ico, on the start menu item, the program file ico, etc., and nothing. the prog doesn't react
at all.

i can't play .rm/.ram files, even with alternative programs, like media player classic. i woul prefer not to have anything to do with real player inc., but i appear to be all out of options.

i'm running winxp home, ic7, 1 gig of mushkin, on a 2.4c.

First thing to do is uninstall it using add/remove programs.

i've installed and un-installed it numerous times. i've installed and un-installed just the real player codecs - to no avail.

i've picked through the registry for all leftover entries. that took about 45 minutes. found dozens of stray keys and values left behind by real player software.

there are one or two mysterious files that i suspect may be the cause to my troubles: one is a pcnt. (or something ?) dll. and the other is an .ini file that came with the real player codec packet i d/l'ed recently.

i've tried ultraplayer, older versions of real player, real player enterprise, and one alternate real player prog (media player classic). nothing works. sometimes, attempts to play an .rm or a .ram file result in total system lock-ups thats accompanied by a steady buzzing sound. i'm forced to perform a cold reboot each time. no other media file gives me any trouble. strange.

Did you run Adaware recently? From what I've read/heard, RealPlayer and anything in the 'Real' category contains a lot of spyware, and when you ran Adaware it may have deleted some of the spyware components, consequently deleteing an important part of the program.

no, i haven't touched adaware. but i may have deleted
or tampered or altered a dll or .ini file through the numerous deletions and installations of real software. i've tried many different configurations, moved around many different files, and i've even experienced difficulties removing real from the add/remove winxp window.
