NTKERN.vxd and NDIS.vxd causing driver problems
Specs:
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro -nForce 2 Ultra400 chipset Running on Win98 Preface: This mobo has all these onboard peripherals that are having problems: sound card and NIC Here's my problem... When I install the drivers for these devices everything is fine, except for ntkern.vxd and ndis.vxd. For the sound card, it says that NTKERN.vxd wont load the device driver. For the NIC, it says that NTKERN.vxd and NDIS.vxd wont load the device driver. I've reinstalled the drivers numerous times, but to no avail. I would appreciate anyone's help. Thanks |

try this,I found it on the net about your type of problem
Ntkern.vxd device loader for this device could not load the device driver.(code2) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true: - An OEM version of Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) is installed on your computer. - The Hidclass.sys, Hidparse.sys, or Hidusb.sys files are missing or improperly installed. To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented. To verify that the Hidclass.sys, Hidparse.sys, or Hidusb.sys files are in the Windows\System32\Drivers folder: 1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click "Files or Folders." 2. In the Named box, type "hidusb.sys hidparse.sys hidclass.sys" (without the quotation marks). 3. In the "Look in" box, click My Computer, and then click Find Now. 4. In the list of found files, verify that the Hidusb.sys, Hidparse.sys, and Hidclass.sys files are all located in the following folder: Windows\System32\Drivers If the Hidusb.sys, Hidparse.sys, or Hidclass.sys file is missing from the Windows\System32\Drivers folder, extract a new copy of that file from the Windows 98 CD-ROM, and then install the file in the Windows\System32\Drivers folder. To do this: 1. Insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key as you insert the CD-ROM to prevent Windows Setup from starting automatically. 2. Click Start, and then click Run. 3. In the Open box, type "sfc" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK. 4. Click "Extract one file from installation disk." 5. In the "Specify the system file you would like to restore" box, type the name of the missing file, and then click Start. 6. In the "Restore from" box, type the following line :\Win98 where is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive. 7. In the "Save file in" box, type the following line, and then click OK :\Windows\System32\Drivers where is the drive letter of the hard disk on which Windows 98 is installed. 8. Click OK, and then click OK again. 9. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes. Repeat these steps to reinstall each missing file. here is the site: http://members.tripod.com/~ussearth/databse.htm#ntkernerror

I also received exactly those same error messages when I was setting up a new PC to dual boot to Win98FE.
I had obtained the wrong drivers from a website (for the modem if I recall correctly), and it gave those messages. Simply installing the correct drivers fixed the problem. David. |

Eldon - I tried that method, but I have those files. It didnt have a solution if I did still have the files. Thanks for your help anyway.
David Jones- I tried the drivers from their website and from the provided disc, both had the same problem. Any other suggestions, please? Thanks Last edited by mantapc3; 07-06-2003 at 04:59 PM. |

Also, were you starting from a clean install?
If not, do you know what changes you made that brought about the error messages? David. |

I am still leaning towards the wrong drivers - purely because of my own experience (I am biased!)
Let's concentrate on the NIC alone for now (to simplify the issue), and if we fix that we can come back to the other device(s). Are you using the drivers from a CD / disk that came with the NIC? Was the NIC part of the machine when you acquired it? David. |
