help with slow programs

i (mistakingly) went to some websites the other day on video game emulation, they were swamped with popups... now i get popups constantly, and my computer is starting to run slower, sometimes freezing for a few seconds(i just bought this comp like a month ago, i dont think this should be happening!). i have run spybot a ton of times, and each time it finds more stuff, what can i do to stop this??? uninstalling IE and then reinstalling it? why does this happen??? thanks!

IE 6.0

2.53ghz sony vaio

Sounds like you might have a good case of spy-ware on your system. I would recommend that you d/l and run ad-aware. I would also make sure that your anti-virus is up to date and run that. You would also need to check for trojans.

here's where you get Adaware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
it will do more to remove your problems than spybot....
go here for a free online virus check:
http://www.trendmicro.com/en/home/us/enterprise.htm
and here's where you can find free or trial version antitrojan programs:
http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/3120-...jan&tg=dl-2001
let us know how you make out.....
