window washer
will the program clean up a hard drive that contained some files that the FBI would like to find,
will it make the information unrecoverable, with todays technogly I know of a person that got nailed, and tried to erace his drives before they took everything to there labs. if the files are recoverable then he would face federal charges. if the files were removed with this program he will not be charged tith that part, I was just courious it it possibly would do that good of a job Last edited by bailey; 07-18-2003 at 08:24 PM. |

Hi bailey,
After everything you mentioned the only thing that comes to my mind is buy another HDD and start over. Keep the other HDD somewhere safe. Carl |

no, you missed the whole point, I turned this guy in, and he found out about it somehow, and did a format and then wrote 0's to the drive and then used windows washer on it .
the FBI told me that they have some new stuff that can still retrive the information, I hope they do as I want this guy put away for good. if he was stupid enuff to burn these files to a cd, and they got his cd collection too so he is a goner any way. I hope |

bailey,
Sorry about the misunderstanding. After reading the discussions here about this very subject, the only way for the guy to hide his files was to take a hammer to the platters on the drive and then make the broken pieces disappear. Carl |

depends what he did, i mean, taking someone away for piracy isnt one of the things i like. just fine them. but if he was a big hacker (not just hacking hotmail passwords or personal websites) then ya i have no problem turning them in.

One tries to build a better mousetrap. The other tries to build a better mouse. Such is life.
I believe most of those eraser/anti-forensics programs are primarily meant to keep nosey people from finding old information. How well do those programs work? The computer has to be seized by the government first? What's someone going to do? Sue Evidenence Eliminator or Window Washer because it failed to completely delete traces of treason or other criminal activity? |
