problem with transferring movie file

This is my problem- I was moving a file from one partition to the other partition (same HD)-then my pc crashed on me-I still don't know why. Then when I restarted the pc-the file is still in the original drive, I acn play it normally, but when I cut the file and paste to the other drive-the message "file path too deep" comes out. I don't understand this. When I copy the file-the copied file is in the drive, but I cannot play it-saying that the file is being used. What do I do. Help. I use XP pro

try putting it on the root of that drive and trying it.

seems like their may be an issue as to how deep in folder you can go. seems like i have had a similar problem in the past but I can't remember. I could be just totally wrong but what the heck don't put it in a directory and try it.

while yo uare moving it from one drive to another, don't cut and paste, just copy and paste, make sure it works before you delete it from source.

Do use COPY and paste not CUT and paste until you are sure that the file was copied correctly.

Don't want to lose it accidentally!

no-the file is in one folder, C:>folder>file. I already tried copy paste, I got the file,m, but I cannot play it. Then I tried to delete the file. I got it to the recycle bin. I want to erase the file, then the pc slows down.. and the file cannot be deleted. The pc also slows down when I try to cut and paste. but nothing does happen. Can the file permenantly attach to my hd?

I wonder if you might be best copying the file from pure DOS (boot from a CD / diskette)?

Sounds like maybe good old Windows is too bloated to be able to cope with the size of file?
