Reccomended "must have" freeware
Could someone give me a list of "must have" software for a computer enthusiast. The stuff im talking about is things like WCPUID, Memtest, 3dmark. I see alot of this software in mentioned in threads and am not sure what they are and what they do.
Thanks, Vince |

For graphics and picture editing I like Pixia http://www.ab.wakwak.com/~knight/ , it's not quite as powerful as Photoshop, but it does everything I need to do plus it's freeware.
Here's a great thread on freeware http://www.amdforums.com/showthread....hreadid=191951 |

www.softseek.com (zdnet) has a very large freeware/shareware download center. if you know what you want to do (i.e: graphics editting or say, spam eliminating) you can search for it there.

I forgot to mention WinDriver Backup from Jetmar.com
It will back up all the drivers on your computer to a folder so that you never have to dig for an install disk again. |

Wait! Did I see "Real Player" in this list? I can't believe my eyes.
Real crap rates right up there with Gator, and Comet cursors, as some of the worst adware on the internet. While you're at it, why not get Kazaa full version, Norton Utilities suite (especially Crash Guard!),...oh forget it... My list: Push the Freakin' Button IrFanView WinAmp Eudora Mailwasher Mirc StarDownloader AVG Easycleaner RegScrubXP (for XP only) SwatIt WinRar Adaware Spybot Aida32 |

No, but I use Tinra RM converter to make them all .avi's and then play them with something else.

You still need to have Realplayer installed to make TINRA work though don't you?

Moot point: Nothing good ever comes in Real Audio format anyway.
![]() Not a "must have" but ObjectDock is a slick little MacOS X dock emulator. |

Another one:
A program called changeext. When installed you can change the extension of a file when you right click on it. |

I'm surprised this one isn't mentioned Belarc Advisor. It's great for a quick snapshot of a system.

With real player you download the entire program, then use the custom install option. Uncheck everything and do check I do not have an internet connection. Uncheck making it the default player for everything listed. Then remove any Real entries in the startup tab on MSCONFIG. Finally use SYgate Firewall and block Realplayer from communicating out.
