"preparing to install" message opening MSword
A couple of months ago I installed a power point software in order to read a couple of presentations my college professor was sending out. Ever since that time, whenever I open Windows Word (2002, version 10.4) it starts by running a small screen that says: "preparing to install" and takes a minute or so before it finally opens up. I uninstalled the power point software, but the problem still persists. I have an XP home version operating system. Any suggestions? It doesn't seem to be a problem on any other software.

Word and it's plugins are a finicky bunch.
the only thing I can think of is to uninstall Word (backup ALL your documents), run reclean or any registry cleanup program. Then reinstall..... I, too am plagued with this same problem and anxiously await a simpler solution. |

See if the solution is within the MS KB Article, Windows Installer Appears Every Time a Program Is Started.
It specifically addresses that problem occurring with MS Office products. |

well,
I went to the website and tried EVERYTHING that they suggested....with no luck. The installer opens every time I open an MSOffice product. thanks anyway Last edited by Dan; 08-09-2003 at 07:11 PM. |
