word capitalises every line

This little problem is getting me vexed, I have Word 2000 and if I press the enter key and go to another line, it capitalises the first letter of the sentence on that line even though there is no punctuation following the last word on the previous line, otherwise it works fine, it starts each sentence with a capital letter after a period as it should and capitalises the letter "I" when it stands alone but I cant get it to start a line using lower case.
This only happens if I press the "enter" key to go to a fresh line, it doesn't happen if I type to the end of a line and the line wraps around to the next line it stays in lower case in that instance.
Is there a way I can configure it to let me start a line using lower case other than disabling the capitalisation feature. But I didn't want to do this cos that means I have to use the shift key each time to use a capital letter.

Select Tools>AutoCorrect Options>Autocorrect. Unselect the option to "Capitalize first letter of sentences".
Then in the list of autocorrect entries below that, find the entry that sets Word to correct "i" to "I" and delete it. That should see you through.

Oops, didn't read the last lsentence. Forgive me.

Use "Wrap to window" under options/view, that way you don't have to hit enter for every line and it won't capitalize.

Sorry redo I guess I haven't made it clear. I dont have to hit enter for every line but if I do hit enter, the following line starts with a capital letter regardless of the fact there is no period at the end of the sentence of the line above.
as I said, It works fine if I let the line wrap around to the next line and the following line doesnt start with a capital but if, for some reason I need to start a new line by hitting the enter key , presto, I get a capital letter at the beginning of that line. I tried what you suggested and still the same problem.
Phillainp, Your idea of course works but it means that I have to hit the shift key for every capital letter that I need while using word. I was hoping there was a way Word would recognise the fact that the line following the enter key being pressed doesnt need to be capitalised.

Thanks for the suggestions guys but I found a way it can be done. if you hit the enter key (hard return) and there is no period following the last letter or word of that line and it prints a capital letter at the beginning of the next line, press the "undo" feature button in word (after you have typed the first word on that line), and the beginning letter of the word will change to lower case and will continue to do so until you start a fresh sentence following a period. but all you have to do is hit "undo" if it types a capital letter at the beginning of the next line and everything is okay. I found this out from here:
