Partition Magic Question

I have XP running on an 8.4 GB hard drive right now. In about 10 days or so, I should be receiving my replacement WDJB, 80 GB.

Can I use Partition Magic as a slave to first partition the new drive (without any preparation)? I want to create a 15 GB C (NTFS) and 65 GB FAT 32 D.

If you have the PM bootdiskette already made, install the new drive, boot to the diskette, partition, and copy the drive.

Not sure I'm following you, Ray, but here's what I did recently. Had an 80Gb WD and added a second. I installed Partition Magic after the new drive was installed and just set up all the partitions the way I wanted, selecting Fat32 for one partition where I plan to install 98se later. I did it all on the fly with existing software and files undisturbed. XP Home was/is on the system. HTH

I asked the question because I never used Partition Magic in conjnction with two hard drives. I was running Windows XP in a full setup on a temporary 8 GB hard drive.

I just got my new 80 GB hard drive and set it up as a slave. I used Partition Magic to partition it to 12 GB and 65 GB+ (FAT 32). I made a Drive Image file of the 8 GB to the FAT 32.

I used that file on the FAT 32 to install the OS to the 12 GB. After I did that, because the partition was unallocated, I had to use PM to move it up from 8GB to the rest of the unallocated.

All in all, it was pretty quick. Something like about 20 minutes.
