Norton Help

I have Norton Internet Security 2001 installed, and it has run out of free updates. Now I have no intention of paying for antivirus updates... However every day a screen comes up telling me that I need to renew. How do I get rid of this screen?

Or purchase the update. Anything other than these two pieces of advice would be considered hacking or cracking... as you know...such discussions aren't allowed here.

Can I uninstall the Norton and then reinstall it to get another bunch of free updates, or is it too smart for that?

I don't know how smart the Norton would be, but as it probably requires some sort of registration, I doubt that you can. Me, I havn't ever tried. I like the AVG anti-virus better. And I use Agnitum's Outpost Firewall. Both free for home users, and both seem adequate for my internet usage.

There are some other free anti-virus and firewall programs on the net, but these are the two I like. Different computers and internet connections, should of course be considered.

Good luck.

I know Internet Security 2003 doesn't require any sort of registration...

It might be worth it to see whether or not if I just kept uninstalling and then reinstalling whether or not it would give me a fresh year (or however long) worth of free updates just like when you install it for the first time.

Yes, it is too smart for that. I've never used NIS, so I don't know off hand if there is a switch to disable that or not. They (Symantec) do have a pretty good KB, so may you could check them out and see if there is a way to turn it off.
