Hardware Detective
Can anyone suggest a freeware programme that detects all the hardware inside a laptop so that I can then find the drivers for it? With a desktop PC I'd just open it up but I obviously don't want to in this case. I've been to the manufacturs website but apart from the modem and bios it doesn't seem to have anything else and I don't want to wait to contacvt them to get the original system discs
As usual all help very much appreciated PS I did download one programme but all it seemed to recognise were the things that windows found - which obviously gave out incorrect information (ie standard vga driver and graphics when I know it may have a mobile radeon or higher spec card) |

See the thread on 'Finding your computers specs' that might help.

the thread lists dxmedia to find out the details and the other link to a programme that does identify hardware but both are based on whether windows knows what it is in the first place. Perhaps there isn't such a thing - perhaps the os has to know the harware before you can update. I think most of these programmes seem to think you already know your harware. In this case it's for a laptop and the laptop site is very unhelpful about specifying which hardware is on board (the problem with giving the same name to a range of possible systems)

SiSoft Sandra might work on laptops... i think the company is out of the UK, but they offer a free version with a few of the modules locked out unless you buy the full version...
