installing on o/s on a new machine
I am building a new pc and have to install my os. How do I do this on a os-less machine? Do I set all of my bios settings first? And, lastly, do I install my device drivers after or before my windows xp os? Thanks so much in advance!!

Check the bios settings to be sure everything is being seen correctly, set cd as your first boot device, put the OS cd in and exit the bios saving changes. The XP cd will guide you the rest of the setup.
Load the drivers after the OS.
