I would like to know how to merge three pictures together. @ pictures are .gif, onto a .jpeg picture. Is there a way the program will select the edges of an object? for example there is a ball in a the picture, and auto select the ball without me using the lasso tool. Please tell me the steps I need to cut pictures from two different pictures and placing the pictures on a different background. With one picture ontop of the other.

Just do a ggogle search for what you are trying to do in Photshop. There are tons of sites for this program.

there is no way to do what you want automatically....
what I generally do when I want to mask an object is to enlargen the view of the picture (200-300%) and then erase the background pixel by pixel. it's a little time consuming but is the best way I know. There is a Corel program called Knock Out that will almost do this, but I've had better results doing it manually. You can PM me if you have any further questions....I'll do what I can to help. |

you can use the magic wand tool and hold the shift key to add to the selection. the magic wand (looks like a wan oddly enough) works by selecting similar colors. the higher your tolerance, the broader the color scope it will select. the lower the tolerance, the smaller scope. defaul tolerance is 32. if you click somewhere in the baseball and then you hold the shift key, you can make your way around the ball. i would do this at a high magnification like dan said. once you have the ball selected, you just copy and pasted like any other selection. hope that helps

The wand doesn't leave a smooth edge on the image that is remaining. Often I find the need to either blur the edge a little or erase with a faded brush.

force_flow is right the wand does leave a somewhat rough edge, but it mainly depends on the image. the other tool i just thought of (it depends on a distinct difference between what you want to extract and the background) is the magnetic lasso tool. click on the lasso tool and hold it down and the thord tool is the magnetic lasso. this allows to to drag around the edge and it will adhere to the edge. tolerance is the same in this tool as the wand.
