Defrag. programs
I have Windows XP and would like info on Defrag programs. I use the one I have but it doesn't seem to really do that good. Thank you for the help.

The built in Defrag utility in WindowsXP seems to work just great. Have you tried to use this one yet? You stated you are "using the one that you have". Which programs are you referring to?

I use the XP defrager. It seems to work pretty good but leaves a lot of white spaces.

Windows defragmenter is all I use. I seldom defrag my HD anyway.
Diskeeper is another one. Has received lot of praise, altho I don't like it myself, but that is just a personal preference. There's a Lite version you can get for free.

I'm not sure if someone told me this, or read it but is the Win2k and XP defragger based off the diskeeper software? I could be way off!

The white space doesnt mean anything. All the defragmenter does is take files and cluster them together so that your computer is not taking a long time to look for them. I use the defragmenter about once a month because I go through so many files and programs. It works great for me.

xp defrag works good and fast too.
xp has so much built into it, you realy don't need any other software |

If you want to speed up your defrag time with XP, invest in Partition Magic and partition your hardrive to isolate your OS from other programs, files and folders, and even virtual memory. Then when you defrag, you'll be working in a much smaller space for each drive. Also speeds up performance. You can partiton with the native XP disk management tool but PM lets you do it "hot".
