I'm looking for a good 'free' media player that I can use to rip all of my cd's to my computer. It would be good if it used the CDDB feature to find the titles automatically. I have heard of a winamp plugin that does this but I can't find it.

I knew someone would suggest wmp. I usually have found it too slow, but I might try the new version.

I find Version 9 of WMP to be really quick when encoding music. I also enjoy using CDex. In Winamp you need to select the 'Nullsoft Disk Writer', but as far as I know it only encodes in .wav format.

Easier to keep them seperate. Winamp for playing, CDex or EAC for ripping. Let each program excel at what it's suppose to do.

I forgot about CDex, I will probably get that. WMP only goes in wma format - personally I would rather have wav's.

Install an MP3 codec
Add the following registry entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Settings\MP3Encoding "LowRate"=dword:0000dac0 "MediumRate"=dword:0001f400 "MediumHighRate"=dword:0003e800 "HighRate"=dword:0004e200 WMP now can rip to MP3 HANDLE WITH CARE AND ALSO BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE EDITING |

Correct, you will have to create it. And create the DWords as well.
Hope this helps! |
