sometimes freezes?

hi, i have windows xp pro installed on my 120gb seagate and sometimes on start up (when it gets to the windows xp logo with the blue moving bar) it freezes up. It does not always happen, but it always at least hangs for a 10-15 seconds like it's gonna freeze. what could cause this?

Send a message via MSN to doctorgonzo
If the NIC is not normally connected to anything when you start up, the delay may be caused by the NIC searching for a network and failing.

i took out my nic and used my onboard lan only and this did not solve the problem, in fact, it started freezing more. it took my like 7 tries to get into windows.

when you do get on, you might go to system info and hardware resources to see if there is any irq shareing that might be causeing it

every device in the system has a irq to function
there is only 16 of them
go to start
all programs
accessories
system tools
system information
hardware resources
irq's

it will give you a list of all the irq and how they are being used

cut and past the list here and we can tell you if it looks good
